This is a bit off topic, but baseball fans are baseball fans. I stopped by
Ballpark Digest, and they had several interesting articles that could affect
Atlantic League fans and fans in Pennsylvania.
The
Yonkers expansion idea has been out there for AtL fans for a while, but it appears that the
stadium project is reaching critical mass. Yonkers city officials must displace 20 businesses for the $43million dollar, 12 acre project that would give the city a 6500 seat facility. But Baltimore based developer Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse says that construction must start by next spring if they're to complete the facility for 2006, which is when Mary Jane Foster and Jack McGregor hope to field their Yonkers team.
Yonkers mayor Phil Amicone said the city will begin aquiring land when Struever Bros. meet their financing needs, which they are in the process of doing.
In affiliated ball news, the
Altoona Curve (AA - EL) have reached an agreement with the
Williamsport Crosscutters (SS/A - NY-Penn) to allow the
Curve to operate a team in State College PA. The Curve plan on having a facility on PennState's main campus in Happy Valley.
Harrisburg city officials are seeking
$26million for stadium improvements. Ballpark watchers believe the renovations to Commerce Bank Park are the city's attempts to lure AAA ball to the island.
