Atlantic League Scores

Jerson Perez went 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI's to lead the Bears back from a six-love deficit to beat the Patriots 12-6. Somerset batted around in the first hanging their six-spot on Bears starter Tommy Parks. Jeff Nettles and Chris Wakefield each notched a homerun in that first inning before Joe Gannon came out of the bullpen and shut the game down. The knuckleballer threw 6.1 scoreless on just one day's rest and gave Newark a chance to rally back. Newark put four on the board against Somerset starter Bryan Malko in the second, and then put three more on him in the fifth. Rickey Henderson checked in with a 3-for-4 day including a two run homer, two walks and three RBI's.

A three run first inning helped the Riversharks pick-up a game on front-running Atlantic City. The 'Sharks three run first inning was all they needed as they held off the Surf 3-2. Lincoln Mikkelson went eight innings giving up two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts. Home plate umpire Dave Perry gave the fans a scare. He was hit by a Mikkelson pitch in the seventh. EMT's worked on him for half an hour before he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. No update on Perry's condition has been given.

Injury rippled catcher Charles Alley lifted the Bluefish to a 12th inning win over the Road Warriors. The 6-5 win was the second extra innings decision in the three game series and leaves the Warriors still searching for their tenth win of the year.

Long Island kept pace with the Bluefish as the Ducks beat the struggling Pride with another 6-5 decision last night. Andrew Salvo hit a sac fly to center field to plate Jason Johnson with the sixth run. Brian Rekar earned the win after giving up 5 runs, 4 unearned in seven innings. Bill Simas picked up his league leading 12th save of the year.

The Pride lost their closer Marc Deschenes, who was signed by the Boston RedSox. Deschenes, nominated to the '04 All-Star team, will report to Portland to begin work at the AA level. Nashua signed a pair of pitchers, lefty Tom Kelmm saw time with Gary-Northshore of the Northern League and righty Cliff Smith who spent time with Rancho Cucamongo and Arkansas.
