The
Aces - remnants of the
Allentown Ambassadors' preseason scuttling - proved that you "can't lose 'em all." The traveling team, using a name and logo borrowed from
Miles Wolff's Central League, scored six before
Brockton ever picked up a bat. They added four more, and held the Rox to 5 and won just their sixth game of the season (improving to 6-31). Starter
Jerry Dunn didn't record an out and was pulled after facing five batters. Brockton is now a game and a half behind the
North Shore Spirit in the league's North Division.
Brockton's
Mike Torres left the game in the ninth after colliding with teammate
Kris Zacutto while both were attempting to field a fly ball. Torres was 4-for-4 with three of Brockton's five RBI's.
The Spirit and
Capitales de Quebec were rained out last night, along with
Bangor and the league's new team,
New Haven County.
In the only other game played yesterday,
Elmira stretched their winning streak to 8 straight. The Pioneers held off
New Jersey in a back-and-forth battle with 4 lead changes. Former Jackal
Steve Checksfield picked up three RBI's with a single and a two run homer and starter
Joe Van Gorder settled down to pick up the six inning win.
